Introduction to the Department

History and Mission

The Department of Chinese Music was established in 1969. With a rich history and a beautiful environment, the department boasts well-equipped facilities, a comprehensive faculty structure, and has cultivated many outstanding graduates. Our department is dedicated to studying various forms of traditional music with distinctive Chinese cultural characteristics, as well as including the diverse musical styles of cultures worldwide. Embracing both traditional and innovative approaches to teaching, our curriculum incorporates interdisciplinary, cross-domain, and theatrical art forms. Our goal is to nurture well-rounded Chinese music professionals who possess strong communication skills, coordination abilities, a global perspective, and a solid foundation in the humanities. We are committed to revitalizing traditional arts and positioning ourselves as a benchmark, rooted in Taiwan and reaching out to the world.

Career Development Planning

The department's primary aim is to cultivate well-rounded individuals with a deep appreciation for Chinese music, who can excel in fields such as music, Chinese music, musicology, music theater, and major orchestras after graduation.

Employment Prospects

Graduates of our department have a wide range of career opportunities. They can participate in examinations held by various organizations (e.g., cultural centers, record companies, broadcasting and television institutions) or serve in major orchestras, media companies, arts and cultural institutions, or even establish their own music teaching businesses. Our alumni association is well-organized and actively supports graduates by facilitating resource integration and circulation. Graduates are increasingly securing positions in orchestras, schools, music studios, and other related professional fields, leading to a rising overall employment rate.
